HT Backup

HT Backup provides enterprisewide data protection for all data regardless of platform, format, or physical location. HT Backup’s platform support includes Windows, UNIX, Linux, NetWare, OpenVMS, and other legacy platforms. It provides agents to optimize live backup for most common database applications. It is capable of backing up data to any remote location in the network and supports both disk and tape as target media.

HT Backup is based on a “3-tier” architecture to separate and distribute functionality across the network. This architecture provides massive scalability, enhanced performance, fault-tolerance and flexibility. It also allows centralized administration of backups regardless of the location of secondary storage. This means users have the flexibility to centralize backup storage media, distribute it, or use a mixed strategy depending on the nature and location of the data or available resources. The HT Backup architecture separates the control path of backup and replication from the data paths so that the systems controlling backup do not become obstacles to performance or scalability. It allows any system connected to suitable secondary storage – whether tape or disk – to serve as a backup medium for data on systems anywhere else in the network. HT Backup enables various forms of parallel processing to minimize backup and recovery times. It lends itself to easy configuration and efficient processing in any network topology whether SAN, LAN, or NAS. Its architectural benefits are further enhanced by its integration with HT OpenMedia, for rules-based media management across the distributed enterprise.

HT Backup provides tightly integrated live backup and replication capabilities for the most common application environments including major relational databases (such as Oracle and MS-SQL), email systems (MS-Exchange and Lotus Notes), and a number of industry-specific environments. Through our development partnerships with the vendors of these products, we provide modules that use the vendor-recommended procedures to properly quiesce the environment and prepare the underlying data structures for backup while continuing live operations.

HT Backup also takes full advantage of the latest storage technologies. For a variety of SAN environments, it is capable of performing backup and replication remotely from the application environment, automating the preparation of a point-in-time split-image of data and then replicating it or backing it up to storage without impacting the live application environment. It also provides full support of NDMP for NAS systems, allowing efficient local backup of NAS appliance data without impacting or relying on network bandwidth.
